Recommended Clothing

• Insulated winter jacket or parka.

• Warm base layer and insulating mid-layer.

• Insulated snow pants or bibs.

• Warm winter boots with good traction.

• Wool or synthetic socks; bring an extra pair when practical.

• Warm insulated gloves or mittens; mittens are often warmer than gloves.

• Warm hat or beanie that covers the ears.

• Neck gaiter, scarf, or face covering for wind and cold.

• Warm, moisture-wicking base layers rather than cotton when possible.

Recommended Personal Gear

• Hand warmers are not allowed, foot warmers are okay, especially for evening tours.

• Sunglasses or snow goggles for bright or blowing snow conditions.

• Headlamp or flashlight for evening activities when appropriate.

• Camera or phone with a fully charged battery; cold weather can reduce battery life.

• Extra batteries or a portable battery pack kept protected from extreme cold when practical.

Guest Preparation

Guests should avoid arriving underdressed for the expected conditions. Dirty Doggs Kennel may recommend additional clothing or postpone participation when a guest is not adequately prepared for the conditions. Guests should immediately tell the guide if they become excessively cold, wet, numb, or uncomfortable.
